Texas Twiggy has a new episode, and "The Shining, at Last" is Online!
In 2021, I released my first podcast, Texas Twiggy, exploring the life and career of actor, producer, and creator Shelley Duvall.
In the very early stages of making Texas Twiggy, way back in 2021, I connected with Sarah Lukowski. At the time, she was a fellow Shelley admirer who ran a collection of fan pages called the Shelley Duvall Archive.
Sarah helped find archival clips and fill in research gaps, and by the time the show was in full swing, she and I had become friends. In the years that followed the release of the show, Sarah also became friends with Shelley herself.
On July 11, 2024, Shelley Duvall passed away four days after her 75th birthday. The world lost a prolific and talented actor, producer, and creator, and Sarah lost someone who had become a grandmother figure to her.
On July 7th, what would have been Shelley’s 76th birthday, I revived the Texas Twiggy feed with a retrospective and a reflection on Shelley’s mark on the world, using exclusive audio Sarah captured throughout their friendship.

Workshop: How to Bring History to Life
Novelist L. P. Hartley once wrote that the past is a foreign country, “they do things differently there.” At their best, history podcasts welcome you into that foreign country and allow you to understand a moment in time like no other. But whether you have interviews with first-hand sources from a generation ago or you’re telling a story from centuries past, bringing history to life through an audio-only lens presents lots of challenges.
In this practical course, producer Andrew Parsons will walk you through gathering tape, finding archival sources, and sound design tips to turn back time as an audio storyteller. Using specific examples from a variety of audio documentaries and his own work producing Slow Burn and Fiasco, you’ll discover pitfalls to avoid and learn strategies to adopt. Ultimately, you’ll leave class with the knowledge of how to use living and past sources as guides to places and times that no longer exist.
