Los Audio: Fire Relief Resources [Jan 27 - Feb 9]
The next edition will be replaced by this updated list of resources for giving and receiving aid from the fires, which I'm publishing now to get the info out there as expediently as possible.
Below are some resources for those seeking aid and those seeking to give or volunteer.
If you know of any resources, lists, spreadsheets not included here please email me or comment on this post (commenting will make sure it’s seen in the meantime as I update.)
Please feel free to share this post and/or its contents around, no need to link or credit if it’s not convenient. I’ve pulled from so many sources that I can’t credit them all, but thank you to anyone who posted any of these on Instagram, in LADIO and Radio Angeleno, and who messaged me directly.
For those who can give or volunteer:
⭐ You can send money via JPay to the incarcerated firefighters working to contain the fires. This money goes directly to their books. Finding names/numbers takes some doing, but @kelsatron on X has compiled a list and many people are including their loved ones’ information in the thread as well as on this Instagram post. It is estimated that nearly 1,000 of the firefighters on the frontline are incarcerated – most are paid about $1 extra per day (averaging $5.80 to $10.24 per day) as firefighters, working 24-hour shifts to very literally save all of our lives. If you have a first and last name, you can search for their information here. If you know of any incarcerated firefighters’ information, please comment on this post!

Please have a fire extinguisher in your house or apartment. Just in general, but especially now – it’s insane how many people do not have at LEAST one extinguisher per floor of their home or in their apartment… I learned this the easy way with a toaster oven fire last year. It’s a $30 - $40 investment that can literally save your life.
Please wear an N95 or respirator outside. There is not just ash, but asbestos and lead and lots of other gnarly particles in the air right now that are not necessarily reflected in AQI readings.
Stay safe, take care of your community, and above all take care of yourself. ❤️
